Tura Rated in Australia's Top 100
Monday, 05 December 2011 05:45

For the second year running Tura Beach has been rated in Australia's Top 100 Public Access Golf Courses.

This would come as no surprise to members, who believe the course is in the finest condition it has ever been.  The cross-hatched mowing of the carpet-like fairways, the shaping of the bunker edges and the smoothness of the greens, contribute to the visual splendour and playing pleasure of the layout.

This is a great tribute to Greenkeeper Aaron Miller, his staff and the members who volunteer their time and effort to assist.

The 2012 (and 18th Edition) of the The Golf Course Guide, rates and lists over 800 Australian courses on a number of measures. Course design and course condition have a 40% weighting, while course aesthetics contributes 20%.

The links-style courses near Bridport in Tasmania, Barnbougle Dunes and its new neighbour Barnbougle Lost Farm (which cost $98 to play), were rated overall numbers 1 and 2 in the country. They both topped the design and aesthetics categories and were 5th and 7th respectively for condition.

Tura, which was a Peter Thomson and Mike Wolveridge design, was Australia's very first golf course community, when the front nine holes opened in March 1982. The full 18 were first played in 1984.

While Tura made the Top 100 list at the front of the 2012 Guide, the Top 100 badge was omitted in error, by the publishers, from Tura's alphabetical listing and the colour photo supplied. Tura was the only Top 100 course affected in this way, and when contacted, the Editor and General Manager were most apologetic.
